Modern Odyssey | Volunteering Team
Week 4 – Fabric Republic: New Adventures Incoming…

The days in Athens flew by for our Modern Odyssey team, in between the work at Fabric Republic and some sightseeing around the capital. Despite the briefness of their stay, all the volunteers gained incredible knowledge about the work of the NGO in the context of Greece, and the challenges and social issues it addresses.

While deepening their knowledge of sustainable practices and recycling techniques, our volunteers actively contributed to the daily work of Fabric Republic by joining the hands-on team. Their main tasks consisted in sorting clothes and labelling and packing them according to size, gender, and material. These clothes, sorted by the Modern Odyssey volunteers, will be ready to be distributed the next winter to those in need. What made this week special was the presence and enthusiasm of the Fabric Republic team, who took time to explain the story and mission of the NGO to our volunteers, raising awareness on the challenges they try to overcome and the target groups they are helping through their work. This was an important moment for the project, as one of its main goals is to discover Greek culture and learn more about the work of eco-communities and organizations in the context of Greece.

The days in Athens also represented an incredible opportunity for our team to explore the capital and get an immersion in the history of Greece through visits at the Acropolis, museum-hopping afternoons, and taverna evenings. Some of the volunteers used the extra free days to go on small trips to the island of Agistri or to hitchhike around, taking a brief break from their work and relaxing on breathtaking beaches or hiking in the Greek mountains.

Now that their break is over, our volunteers are on the way to the next destination, ready for new adventures and memories! Curious to find out their next location? Don’t forget to follow us and like our posts!
