Modern Odysseyn| Volunteering Team
Week 1 – A clearer path

In between days of work and extra stimulating activities, the first week of our volunteers in the spectacular setting of Yamochori has already come to an end!

During the last days, the team had the opportunity to discover the world of natural building and learn more about how to practice sustainability and the daily routines of an ecoproject. They helped the owners repair a storage in their community which will soon serve to house guests and other young volunteers. Additionally, they built a wooden path for the nearby trek, which will soon be opened to the public. Throughout the process, they learnt more about natural materials and no-impact techniques of construction, dialoguing with the owners and asking them questions about their experience of founding an ecoproject in Greece. The team had the extra opportunities of engaging with locals from the nearby villages, exploring Greek culture, and go on a challenging, yet incredible hiking adventure in the valley surrounding Yamochori.

With the first week coming to a closing, coordinators and volunteers came together to reflect about these first days of the project. They shared their experiences and feelings with each other through sharing circles and bodily movements. Now they feel ready to proceed with their journey and move on to the next destination!
