Our first week in Vietnam is now coming to an end.
We met in Hanoi and spent the first three days there, exploring the city and getting to know each other. Besides trying the delicious local food, we visited famous sites like the train street and the museum of ethnology. Then our adventure in the village of Thai Hai’s ethnic minority began…
“Xin chào” is the most common and polite way to say “Hello” in Vietnamese, and it’s one of the first things we learned as we started connecting with the local community.
The community has been very welcoming from the beginning and right after arriving we started our activities. For one and a half days we worked together with the villagers, planting flowers which were used to decorate the entrance of the village. During the weekend, we worked with the kids and teenagers doing educational workshops, playing games, dancing together, sharing cultures, creating jewelry and practicing English.
Every day we learned a lot of new things about community-life in the village, the local culture and Vietnam. Our group is becoming more and more connected to each other and nature each day that is passing. And to explore the community of Thai Hai further, we are working on a personal project guided by our curiosity to better undertand topics that interest us.
